Lago Vista Modern stands behind private gates on more than an acre in Beverly Hills, roughly 12,800 square feet of glass, stone and pale wood. Vanishing walls open the great rooms to the garden, and a Crestron system runs light, sound and climate throughout the house.

Seven bedrooms and eleven bathrooms give a large group room to spread out, and the amenities are the point: a chef's kitchen, a 600-bottle wine cellar, a private theatre, a fitness centre and a dedicated office. Outside, a long pool with a Baja shelf and spa is set among lawns, water and fire features, an outdoor kitchen and heated dining terraces. The house takes stays of a month or more, which suits it — it is a residence rather than a weekend rental.
